William Monroe Purvis, 87, of Coffeeville died Sept. 18, 2008 in a Bay Minette hospital.

He was born May 9, 1921. He was a

member of the

First Baptist Church of Coffeeville. He was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge during World War II having served in the United States Army. He was retired from Parden LP Gas Company.

Survivors include his wife, Foula M. Purvis, Coffeeville; one son, William M. (Bill) Purvis, Coffeeville; one daughter, Rojean Reed, Thomasville; one brother, Agnew Purvis, Chickasaw; one sister, Martha Roberts, Coffeeville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Agnew and Irena Purvis, and a sister, Ida Rebecca Purvis of Coffeeville.

The service was Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson. Burial was in the Elam Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville.
