He was born Feb. 3, 1932 to the late Agee Nobles and Marylee Calhoun Nobles in Grove Hill. He was the oldest of 75 grandchildren of Kervin and Melia Calhoun. In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army. During active duty he received an honorable discharge, he moved to Philadelphia in 1957 and made the city his home. He was employed with the United States Postal Service for 35 years. He was a huge fan of the Phillies and loved to watch the baseball games with family and friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Annie (Larry) Cousan; one stepson, Ronell Francis; one sister, Shirley (Bob) Nesbitt; two grandsons, Ladell Holmes, Larry Cousan; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Jr. and Floyd Bradford.
Burial was in the Fernwood Cemetery in Collingdale, Pa. Yarborough and Rocke Funeral Home Inc. of Philadelphia, Penn. directed.
Active pallbearers were Ladell Holmes, Ronell Francis, Craig Franklin, Frank Calhoun, David Peterson and Jerome Johnston.
Flower bearers were family and friends.
