He was born Oct. 31, 1946 to the late Lillie Bell Branch and Chester Robert Garnes Sr. He was a member o f Paterson Assembly of God. He was educated by the Passaic New Jersey City School System. He had worked for Jiggets Taxi Company, Veterans Taxi Company and Prestige Taxi Company. He also worked for Marcal Paper Company in Elmwood Park, New Jersey for many years. He owned and operated Garnes Trucking.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Ames-Garnes, Paterson, N.J.; three children, Frances (Willie) Coates, Victoria (Jarvis) Garnes-Hunt, Grove Hill, Lillian Garnes, Paterson, N.J.; five step-children; three brothers, Ellsworth (Anna) Schenck, Passaic, N.J., Chester Robert (Monique) Garnes, Fayetteville, N.C., Joseph (Helen Mancuso, Clifton, N.J.; three sisters, Stella Mancuso, Mebane, N.C., Rev. Dr. Shirley Rucker, Bloomfield, N.J., Dorothy Roberts-Frye, Clifton, N.J.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; devoted friends, Willie Mae Thomas-Garnes, Freddie Williams, Ramona Wilkerson; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lillian Mancuso.
The service was Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at Paterson Assembly of God with Rev. Gregory Capers officiating and Rev. Della Wilder presiding. Carnie P. Bragg Funeral Homes, Inc. of Paterson, N.J. directed.
