Willie Mae Heartfield Slater, 73, of Coffeeville died Dec. 15, 2008 at Jackson Medical Center.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church in Coffeeville, where she was a deaconess and served in the choir, Sunday school and missionary society. She retired from Clarke County School System, where she worked in the food service department at Coffeeville Elementary School.
Survivors include three sons, Willie James (Patricia) Slater) Tuskegee, Phillip Matthew Slater, Talladega, Arthur Slater III, Iowa; three daughters, Yolanda Denise (John) Thornton, Augusta, Ga., Michel Lee (Auther), Jackson, Jackson, Stephanie Diane Slater, Coffeeville; six sisters, Dessie Hartfield, Coffeeville, Ethel Thomas, Mary Shaw, Regina Manley, all of Miami, Fla., Dorothy Curry, South Haven, Minn., B. Delois Bryant, Mobile; one brother, Rev. Johnnie Heartfield, Silas; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
The service was Dec. 20 at 12 noon at Union Baptist Church in Coffeeville with Revs. Johnnie Heartfield and Vayton Chapman officiating. Burial was in the Coffeeville Cemetery. Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson directed.
