Low temps increase danger of home fires

Temperatures dipped into the upper 20s Wednesday morning and the weather forecast called for temperatures in the mid teens to upper teens Thursday and Friday mornings. The daytime high Thursday was expected to be around 46 degrees.

The cold weather increases the chance of fires as people turn to a variety of heating devices. Area firemen urge caution in whatever type of heating is being used so as to avoid fires.

All heating devices- electric, wood and gas- should be adequately venilated and separated from anything that is combustible. Chimneys should be cleared of excess soot and debris. Be careful using extension cords with electic heaters and make sure they are plugged into adequate outlets.
