Junior Miss Ellie Wilson off to state pageant
By Kathryn F. Pickard News Reporter

Ellie Wilson, Clarke County's Junior Miss, will leave Friday to compete in the Alabama Junior Miss program in Montgomery.

"I'm not nervous yet, but I probably will be. Nerves can be good sometimes I guess," she laughed.

She has spent the past several weeks practicing her talent and interview skills with her coach, Amy Davis, working out so she will be prepared for the physical fitness routine and buying clothes for the pageant, the rehearsals and the social activities planned for them over the next week.

"It's been stressful," she said. Ellie's talent for the program will be a monologue, "Etiquette in Church," from O Ye Jigs and Juleps.

Rehearsals begin every morning at 7:30 and are scheduled in four hour blocks. Between rehearsals contestants will attend luncheons, visit elementary schools and visit the zoo. There is also a host dad's party scheduled for one evening.

"I'll have to take several changes of clothes with me to the church every day," Ellie said. "It's been a very exciting and stressful time. I just appreciate everyone for helping me, especially Kate and Allen Jordan, my bosses, for being so understanding, and the Junior Miss Committee."

The Junior Miss Committee and the other contestants from the county pageant threw her a sendoff party on Sunday at the home of Jamie Cockerham.

Ellie and Hollie Jacobs, Winston County's Junior Miss, will be staying with host parents Kathy and Eddie Welch. They won't be allowed to have any contact with their family and friends except through letters or other items sent to them.

"I'm going to need all the love and support I can get," she said.

The pageant will be held at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church in Montgomery. First preliminary will be held Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Second preliminary will be held Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. and finals will be held that evening at 7 p.m.

Ellie can receive mail at: Ellie Wilson, c/o Kathy and Eddie Welch, 1201 Kirkwood Drive, Montgomery, AL 36177.

It is suggested flowers be sent through Ed Price Floral Creations, 910 Adams Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36104, 334-265-9899.

Ellie is the daughter of Bruce and Rhonda Wilson and is a senior at Clarke County High School.
