Wright

Shirley Shields Wright, 72, of Grove Hill died Jan. 2, 2008 in a Mobile area hospital.

She was born Sept. 29, 1935. She was a native of Allen. She was a member of Grove Hill Baptist Church where she was active in the WMU and the church choir. She was secretary to the executive committee of the Alabama Baptist State Convention, former president of the Mission Belles, and Southern Magnolia Women's Club. She served as a substitute teacher at Clarke County High School for over 25 years. She was a member of North Allen Homemakers Club. She graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas with a Masters of Religious Education Degree, Blue Mountain College in Mississippi and Murphy High School in Mobile.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Jack Wright Jr., Grove Hill; one son, Jack Russell Wright III, Grove Hill; three daughters, Kathy Wright Pickard, Grove Hill, Diane Wright Horton and Carol Leigh Wright, both of Birmingham; one sister, Elizabeth Sharpe, Mobile; eight grandchildren.

The service was Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. at the Grove Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Al Dykeman officiating. Burial was in the Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill. Lathan Funeral Home of Grove Hill directed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pilots for Christ, P.O. Box 707, Monroeville, AL 36461.

Active pallbearers were Benjamin Pickard, Russ Wright, Charles Bouler, Larry Bagley, Doug Ramsay, Eddie Slayton, Tracey Newton and Dale Harris.
