Fulton council gives raises to employees
By Barry H. Hendrix Managing Editor

The Fulton Town Council voted Jan. 8 to give a four percent raise to town employees.

Police Chief Larry Hicks is the only fulltime employee. There are technically nine employees.

The last raise was in 2005.

In other action from the Jan. 8 meeting, Mayor Mike Norris has been working on a taskforce to create a Clarke County Animal Shelter.

The town council approved a first annual 5K run/fun run/pet trot, entitled "Voice for the Animals," to be held at 8:30 a.m. on April 5 in Fulton to raise money for the shelter.

Registration for the run will cost $15 for adults and $12 for children. Registration time is 7 to 8:15 a.m.

Veterinarian Dr. Ed Sellers will also have a vaccination clinic on that date, the mayor said. Vaccinations will be at a reduced cost.

There will also be live music at the event.

• The council approved purchasing a new police car for $27,821. The purchase will be financed over 24 months at $1,229.77-a-month.

• Contract laborer Kim Williams was promoted to part time employee.
