Separate 84 wrecks claim 2 lives

Separate accidents on Highway 84 claimed the lives of two people, including a two-year-old child last weeek.

Accident in Choctaw County

A two-year-old boy was killed in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 9, just west of Coffeeville in Choctaw County.

A 1999 Honda collided with a tractor-trailer at the 19.9 mile marker in front of the Highway 84 Package Store three miles west of Coffeeville, according to Dorris Teague, information specialist with the Alabama Department of Public Safety. The time of the accident was approximately 12:30 p.m.

Killed in the accident was Aiden Ridge Beaugez of McIntosh. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother, Adrian Lenore Martin, 25, also of McIntosh, was the driver of the passenger car and was injured.

Another passenger, Beaugez's half-brother, eight-year-old Adam Drake Weaver, was also injured. Martin and Weaver were transferred to Grove Hill Memorial Hospital and released that day.

Terry Dewain Baxter, 38, of Coffeeville, was the driver of the 2006 Western Star log truck. He was employed by Jordan Timber Company. Baxter was injured, but his condition was unknown at press time.

The accident remains under investigation by State Troopers. Trooper Darrell Linder is the investigating officer.

Among those responding to the scene were members of the Choctaw Co. and Clarke Co. Sheriff's Departments, police officers from Silas, Gilbertown and Coffeeville, members of the Coffeeville Volunteer Fire Department, rescue squads from Clarke Co. and Choctaw Co., Alabama Game and Fish officers, Choctaw Co. EMS ambulance units, ambulance units from Clarke County, District Attorney Spencer Walker and members of his staff.

According to published reports, the two-year-old victim was a native of Jackson. Funeral services were held Saturday at McKenley's Holiness Church with burial in Reed's Chapel Cemetery in McIntosh.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his father, Michael Beaugez Sr. of Citronelle; four brothers, Adam Weaver, Bryan Cole, Michael Beaugez, Jr. and Joseph Byrd, all of McIntosh; and his grandparents, Dottie and Thomas Rivers of Citronelle, Barbara and Joe Guerrero, Paul Martin and Minnie Reed, all of McIntosh.

In a related matter, McIntosh Police Officer Brad Singleton stopped and arrested Martin, the driver of the Honda and mother of the victim, Jan. 8 on U.S. Highway 43, after he discovered a small amount of marijuana in her possession. She was charged with second degree possession of marijuana and ordered to appear in McIntosh Municipal Court.

Claiborne accident

A Sweet Water man was killed Jan. 10 in a two-vehicle collision near Claiborne on Highway 84.

According to the State Troopers office in Evergreen, Richard Todd McKay, 41, of Sweet Water, was fatally injured when his 2000 Ford Focus collided with a 2007 Peterbilt truck driven by Jeffery Mills, 50, of Ovett, Miss.

Mills was injured and transferred to Monroe County Hospital. He was treated and released.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:01 a.m. in Monroe County 12 miles west of Monroeville.
