C'ville to celebrate 200th May 31
By Kathryn F. Pickard News Reporter

The Coffeeville Town Council discussed plans for its bicentennial celebration during the Jan. 8 meeting. The celebration is scheduled for May 31.

The town was founded as Murrell's Landing in 1808. The community was named Coffeeville in honor of General John Coffee, a hero of the Creek Indian War and a contemporary of General Andrew Jackson.

Bids on the new vehicle for the Coffeeville Police Department were opened Jan. 10 and the car has been ordered.

Council members received an invitation from Coastal Gateway for a luncheon held in Monroeville Jan. 13. Mayor Faye Cotten and council member Pearlie Bell attended the luncheon.

Approval was given for a 50th wedding anniversary celebration at Town Hall Jan. 12.

It was reported that the addition to the former town hall building is paid for.
