103-year-old honored

Edna Woodard was honored with a belated 103rd birthday party at the Cedar Point Baptist Church Sunday in the West Bend community near Coffeeville. Friends and relatives turned out for a worship service that focused on her followed by dinner in the fellowship hall. Here, the honoree sits at the front of the church while Mary Mitchell Green, a cousin from Mobile who served as mistress of ceremony, talked about her life. Also making remarks were Deacon Earnest Williams, Coffeeville Mayor Faye Cotten and Vivian White Paul, who grew up knowing Woodard. Most of the large Coats family attended also. She helped raise the siblings. The Rev. Johnny Hartfield, pastor of New Rock Baptist Church in Millry, delivered the message. He is a native of the area. Woodard's daughter, Rosa Thornton, made remarks in the fellowship hall. Woodard does remarkably well for her age and was delighted in the recognition she received Sunday. Photo by Jim Cox
