BOE meets today

Clarke County Board of Education will meet Thursday, (today), Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. Items of interest include the superintendent's report, bids on fiber network, personnel and bills, accounts and payroll.

TCDC Mardi Gras ball set

The Toddtown Community Development Center is sponsoring a Mardi Gras Ball Friday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. at the H.W. Pearce Jr. Memorial Park Assembly house in Jackson. Steven and Schequetta Johnson Knight will be crowned the Mardi Gras King and Queen at 8:45 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $15. Cattlemen's steak dinner set

The Clarke County Cattlemen's Association will hold its annual steak dinner meeting Saturday, Jan. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Clarke Preparatory School in Grove Hill. Dr. Billy Powell, executive vice president of the Alabama Cattlemen's Association will be the guest speaker. He is a native of Leroy.

Historical Society meets

The Clarke County Historical Society will meet Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill Town Hall. The guest speaker will be Dr. Jim Herod with the Grove Hill Writers Group. Dr. Herod is a member of a committee writing a play about Fort Sinquefield. The fort, located west of Whatley, was the site of an attack during the Creek Indian War in 1813. The public is invited to attend.

VFW Post meeting set

VFW Post 5106 in Thomasville will have its regular monthly meeting Monday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. All members are urged to come out to this important meeting.

Children's grief meetings set

If you have lost a child to death and are struggling with your emotions you are not alone. Come share with other grieving parents at HeCares Christian Counseling Center, Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. in Chatom next to Cooper Lewis C.M.E. Church. Chamber's quarterly meeting

The Grove Hill Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its quarterly meeting Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Gloria's Cafe beginning at 12 noon. "How to Prepare your Business for Pandemic Flu" will be the program topic presented by the Alabama Department of Public Health. Everyone is invited to the Dutch treat luncheon meeting.

CCHS '99 class meets

A planning meeting for the CCHS Class of 1999 will be held Saturday, Feb. 2 at 12 noon at The Gaston's Bar & Grill (formerly Ryan's) in Thomasville. Coffeeville RSVP to meet

The Coffeeville RSVP will meet Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Nutrition Center. The guest will be Patricia Smith who will perform songs during the meeting. Everyone is invited to attend.

Coffee with Sylvia

The Grove Hill Area Chamber of Commerce and the Women's Business Center, Inc. will host a women business and entrepreneurs workshop Thursday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. the workshop titled "Coffee with Sylvia" will be conducted by Sylvia Browder and is free to anyone who would like to attend. The discussion for the workshop will be Tipping the Scale of Work - Life Balance in your favor: Five Timely Tips. The wokshop will be held at the Helms house next to the Clarke County Museum and reservations are suggested. Free concert in Monroeville

The world-famous Chuck Wagon Gang will be appearing in a free benefit concert for Pilots for Christ, Inc., at Nettles Auditorium on the campus of Alabama Southern Community College in Monroeville Friday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Pilots for Christ, Inc. is a Christian non-profit organization based in Monroeville that helps fly needy people who are too ill to travel by any other means. Opening for the concert will be the Foyer Boyz of Tupelo, Miss. and a Monroe County gospel group, Joyful Noize will also perform. Clarke Chapter #32 D.A.V. meets

Clarke County Chapter #32 for the D.A.V. have relocated to the fire station in Gosport. Meetings will be every second Saturday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. Commander Archie Robinson announced.

Black History Tea

Clarke County Voters League located at 717 Depot Road in Jackson will observe its Annual Black History Tea Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. This event will be held at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House at 500 Vanity Park Drive in Jackson. The theme for 2008 is: Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, Today is a gift called the Present. Thought for the day: Learn to dream while you are awake. The guest speaker will be Sam Jones, Mayor of Mobile. For more information call Janet James, Program Chairperson at 251-246-5001.

TCDC beautillion and cotillion

The Toddtown Community Development Center's Annual Beautillion and Cotillion will be Saturday, April 5. The application fee for young girls, ages 5 to 10 years old is $35. The application fee for the young men and women who are high school juniors up to college sophomores is $75.
