Gospel performer Sullivan to be honored Feb. 3
Dinner will be served at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is encouraged to bring a covered dish. Long being a fixture in Washington County Jerry has taken his music and gospel songs all over the world. He started writing gospel songs in 1949 and together with The Sullivan Family toured the United States as one of the First families of Bluegrass Gospel Music. In 1978 Tammy joined her father to make up the gospel group Jerry and Tammy Sullivan. In 1991, they were the first group to record for the Country Music Foundation, the critically acclaimed "A Joyful Noise." In 1996 New Haven Records released the Grammy Nominated "At the Feet of God," and in 2000 Ceili Records (Ricky Skaggs record label) released the critically acclaimed "Tomorrow." The latest project is on his own record label San Rydge Music titled "Jerry and Tammy Sullivan - Live from the Place of Hope." Jerry either wrote or co-wrote most of the songs for these projects, along with longtime friend Marty Stuart. With a standing invitation to the Grand Ole Opry, to another tour to Ireland next year, Jerry has contributed much to the legacy of Bluegrass Gospel Music. The church invites everyone to join in the celebration of the musical journey of Jerry Sullivan. Scheduled to appear: from the Grand Ole Opry are: Marty Stuart, Connie Smith, Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee Joel and Labreeska Hemphill, Alan O'bryant of the Nashville Bluegrass Band, Tammy Sullivan, John Paul Cormier, The Joe Cook Family, The Areno Family, and many others.
This is a free concert; however, an appreciation offering for Bro. Jerry will be received.
