WHMS Spelling Bee winners announced

Spelling Bee Alternate Khaliyah Malone, left, assists Amber Horn, WHMS Spelling Bee Winner, in studying for the upcoming County Spelling Bee.
WHMS recently held its annual Spelling Bee. Twenty-five students, fifth through eighth grade, rivaled for the championship.

A few words that stumped the contestants include humble, nasal, sequin, expertise, fatigue, macrame, dissect, and meticulous.

The winning word was "admiral" and was correctly spelled by Amber Horn, a fifth grader. Amber's parents are Willie James and Janett Horn. Amber will compete in the county spelling bee Feb. 8.

Khaliyah Malone, also a fifth grader, correctly spelled "boutique" to place second in the competition. Khaliyah's parents are Ronald and Vanessa Malone.
