Cox-Motes married on December 19
Mr. Cox was born in the Ebenezer area. He graduated from Central High in Mobile in 1961. He went to Akron, Ohio and became a semi-professional fighter under the name Archie Moore. From there he went to California and joined the Marines. He then went to Vietnam in 1964 and became a First Force Recon Paratrooper in the United States Marines Airborn Battalion in Vietnam where he and his crew were shot down in Vietnam and landed in enemy territory. Out of 49 troops 13 lived and Cox was one of them. He received a purple heart with one star and an air-medal.
He now resides in Jackson with his wife, Maria, who is from the Modesto, Calif. area. She spent 13 years in the nursing field.
