SWAIA honors poll workers Southwest Alabama Improvement Association, (SWAIA) will sponsor a reception for the Clarke County Poll Workers Sunday, Feb. 3 at 4 p.m. at the H.W. Pearce Jr. Memorial Park Assembly House in downtown Jackson. The event will be entitled, "An Evening of Appreciation for Clarke County Poll Workers." This is another effort on SWAIA's behalf to recognize these important individuals, current and long serving poll workers. For further information contact Dr. O.L. Coffeeville RSVP to meet The Coffeeville RSVP will meet Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Nutrition Center. The guest will be Patricia Smith who will perform songs during the meeting. Coffee with Sylvia The Grove Hill Area Chamber of Commerce and the Women's Business Center, Inc. will host a women business and entrepreneurs workshop Thursday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. the workshop titled "Coffee with Sylvia" will be conducted by Sylvia Browder and is free to anyone who would like to attend. The discussion for the workshop will be Tipping the Scale of Work - Life Balance in your favor: Five Timely Tips. The workshop will be held at the Helms house next to the Clarke County Museum and reservations are suggested. Free concert in Monroeville The world-famous Chuck Wagon Gang will be appearing in a free benefit concert for Pilots for Christ, Inc., at Nettles Auditorium on the campus of Alabama Southern Community College in Monroeville Friday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Pilots for Christ, Inc. is a Christian non-profit organization based in Monroeville that helps fly needy people who are too ill to travel by any other means. Opening for the concert will be the Foyer Boyz of Tupelo, Miss. and a Monroe County gospel group, Joyful Noize will also perform. Clarke Chapter #32 D.A.V. meets at fire station Clarke County Chapter #32 for the D.A.V. have relocated to the fire station in Gosport. Meetings will be every second Saturday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. Commander Archie Robinson announced. Child Advocacy dinner set The second annual dinner and auction to benefit the Regional Child Advocacy Center will be held Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Jackson Community House. You may call 251-275-2804 for more information. Governor to visit Jackson Gov. Bob Riley will be in Jackson for two events Monday, Feb. 11. His first visit will be at 9 a.m. at Jackson High School. He will be the guest speaker at a program in the school's auditorium during which he will discuss opportunities that the KhyssenKrupp steel plant will bring to the area. State Rep. Marc Keahey will host the meeting. The public is invited to attend. Riley's second visit will be at City Hall at 11 a.m. for the announcement of a major industrial project in Jackson. The event is expected to be the official announcement of the location of the New Gas Concepts (NGC), Inc., in the city's newly developed industrial park located off J.W. Andrews Highway. "The public is invited to attend to support our city and thank the governor for his support as he makes this significant announcement," Mayor Long said. Black History Tea Clarke County Voters League located at 717 Depot Road in Jackson will observe its Annual Black History Tea Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. This event will be held at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House at 500 Vanity Park Drive in Jackson. The theme for 2008 is: Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, Today is a gift called the Present. GHMA to meet The Grove Hill Memorial Auxiliary will meet Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 9 a.m. in the conference room. The guest speaker will be Cindy Green, R.N. with Grove Hill Memorial Hospital's Cardiac Pulmonary Department. The topic of her discussion will be "How to Stay Heart Healthy." Everyone is encouraged to attend. Toddtown Development Center beautillion and cotillion The Toddtown Community Development Center's Annual Beautillion and Cotillion will be Saturday, April 5. The application fee for young girls, ages 5 to 10 years old is $35. The application fee for the young men and women who are high school juniors up to college sophomores is $75.
