4-H public speaking contest held

4-H Public Speaking and Storytelling competitions were held Jan. 31 at the Clarke County Extension Office. All the youth participating in this year's competitions did a great job. In the public speaking junior division, Joshua Bettis won first place with a persuasive speech titled "Join 4-H," and Zaavier Kidd won second place with his speech titled "Endangered Seals." In storytelling, Kattie Harvell and Allison Bedwell took first place in the Junior Level I division with their story and reenactment of a school conflict. Shanda Pugh won second place with her true story of the life of Langston Hughes. Matt Harvell kept the audience and judges on pins and needles with his first place (Junior Level II) scary story about a trick a friend played on him one day in the woods. Contributed Photo
