Senate fights OK

Perhaps our state legislators- especially our esteemed senators- need to take their boxing gloves to Montgomery for the session that began this week.

Last year's punch by Sen. Charles Bishop, RJasper, of Sen. Lowell Barron, D-Fyffe on the Senate floor made the news around the world and prompting a lot of tsk-tsking here in Alabama.

Senate leaders promised to investigate and take appropriate action. That appropriate action was apparently to do nothing as the Senate Ethics Committee just recently declined to take any action on the matter.

Sen. Bishop contended that Sen. Barron cursed him and he responded with the punch.

Cuss-outs on the Senate floor shouldn't be condoned and neither should right jabs. We have little sympathy for either man.

We are disappointed in the Senate Ethics Committee for dodging its responsibility. Some action, some reprimand or at least a public comment on the matter was in order.
