Deas

Kathleen Bumpers Deas, 82, of Jackson died Jan. 30, 2008 at Jackson Health Care Facility.

She was born Jan. 16, 1926. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson. She had worked with Vanity Fair Mills. She owned and operated Ray and Tom's Restaurant in Jackson for 17 years.

Survivors include one son, Tommy Deas, Jackson; one daughter, Bebe Garrett, Jackson; one brother, Rocky Bumpers, Butler; five sisters, Lyndal Scruggs, Doris Buendicho, Coffeeville, June Roseberry, Jackie Cox, Patricia Meyer, all of Mobile; three grandchildren, Thomas Ott, Hank Ott, Trey Deas; three step-grandchildren, T.J. Marshall, Rachael McDaniel, Jolie Carr; two greatgrandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; and a special nephew, Lefty Anderson, Mobile.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Thomas "Tom" Deas Sr., her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Bumpers, two brothers, Ceathil and Leon Bumpers.

The service was Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brian Jemison officiating. Burial was in the New Prospect Cemetery in Coffeeville. Bumpers Funeral Home of Butler also directed.

Active pallbearers were Trey Deas, Thomas Ott, Hank Ott, Chuck Anderson, Alton Deas and Craig Scruggs.

Honorary pallbearers were Troy Jones, Charles Montgomery, Henry Ott, Ricky Dunagan, Tiffany Alford, T.J. Marshall, Jimmy Deas, Spence Walker, Davis Deas, Alvin Montgomery, Sam Anderson, Johnnie Mae Daffin, the staff of Jackson Health Care Facility, Southern Care Hospice, Doug Walker, Champ Bowling, Mike Garrett, James Long, Trey Wilson and Willie Pearl Williams.
