Estate Planning Workshop

The Grove Hill Baptist Church will be the setting for an Estate Planning Workshop to be held Monday, Feb. 18 and Tuesday, Feb. 19, conducted by Rick Zapata. The topics include "Estate Planning Wills, Heir Property," from 6:10 until 6:45 and "Probate Law" from 6:55 until 7:45. The topic for the second evening will include "Reverse Mortgage" from 6:10 until 7:00 and trusts from 7:15 until 7:45. A break will be held in between sessions. Times may vary due to questions and answers. All participants will receive free of charge a Living Will and Health Care Proxy. You may want to bring paper and pencil to take notes. The workshop is sponsored by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, The Grove Hill Chamber of Commerce and Grove Hill Baptist Church.

DHR quarterly meeting set

The Clarke County Department of Human Resources quarterly board meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 3:30 p.m. The board is located at 22609 Highway 84 in Grove Hill. Lou I. Boykin is the director.

CPS blood drive

Clarke Preparatory School will have a blood drive Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 9 until 2 p.m.

CEFCU annual meeting

The Clarke Educators Federal Credit Union Annual meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. at The Fish House in Jackson. All members and their families are invited to attend. Door prizes will be given.

SWAIA meeting set

Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) will have its monthly meeting Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at Jackson Steakhouse. The guest speaker will be Pamela P. Foster, M.D., M.P.H., Deputy Director, Institute for Rural Health Services, School of Medicine, The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. Black History Tea

Clarke County Voters League located at 717 Depot Road in Jackson will observe its Annual Black History Tea Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. This event will be held at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House at 500 Vanity Park Drive in Jackson. The theme for 2008 is: Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, Today is a gift called the Present. JA's First Annual Horse

Trail Ride

Jackson Academy's First Annual Horse Trail Ride is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23. The cost will be $15 per rider or $30 per family. The ride will begin at 10 a.m. and will return around 4 p.m. Each rider will pack his/her own lunch. When you return to camp, entertainment will begin while a supper will be provided. An auction will follow. All activities will end by 8 p.m. No alcohol allowed. The ride will take place at the home of Tony and Ronda Beck located at 12209 Highway 69, Jackson, AL 36545. Take Highway 43 to Highway 69 in the Salitpa area. Look for the 12 mile marker. For those who do not have a horse, a hayride will be available. SWAIA upcoming events

The Dravitan Civic Club Inc., African-American History Month event will be held Saturday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m. at the New Hope #1 Baptist Church in Thomasville where Dr./Rev. James G. Curry is the pastor. The guest speaker will be Rev. Fred D. Taylor, National Director of Field Operations for the The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Library to hold book signing

A celebration of the publication of Jim Herod's book will be held at the Grove Hill Public Library Sunday, Feb. 24 from 3:30 until 6 p.m. Herod's book is a tale of adventure for a fictional character whose family lives amid the chaos of the 21st centry. Illustrations for each chapter will be on display in the library. The book can be purchased for $11.

GHMA to meet

The Grove Hill Memorial Auxiliary will meet Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 9 a.m. in the conference room. The guest speaker will be Cindy Green, R.N. with Grove Hill Memorial Hospital's Cardiac Pulmonary Department. The topic of her discussion will be "How to Stay Heart Healthy." Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Arts council workshop set

Grove Hill Arts Council presents its third annual "Turning Art Into Business" Workshop Focus on Photography Friday, March 7 at Grove Hill Town Hall. The schedule of events are as follows: 1 p.m., Do's & Don't's of Grant Writing;

Who, What & How to Apply for Grants; and Randy Shoults, ASCA; 2 p.m., How to Publish & Market a Book, Uniersity of West Alabama Printing; 3 p.m. Experiences in Publishing a Book, Chip Cooper and others. Grove Hill Arts Council presents Photography Workshop with Chip Cooper Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 in Grove Hill. On Saturday, March 8 a composition session entitled, "What Makes A Good Photograph?" will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. There will be a lunch break and then a field trip shooting from 1 until 2 p.m. and a discussion to follow from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday, March 9 will be a critique of the photographs and a wrap up from 1 until 3 p.m. To register call Terry Norris at 251-275-3816. The Toddtown Community Development Center's Annual Beautillion and Cotillion will be Saturday, April 5. The application fee for young girls, ages 5 to 10 years old is $35. The application fee for the young men and women who are high school juniors up to college sophomores is $75.
