First United Security Bank names new regional manager/senior VP
According to First United Security Bank's President/CEO Terry Phillips, Sheffield will begin his duties this week and will be responsible for leadership and lending at 11 Clarke and Choctaw County branches. He will also be handling commercial lending efforts for these branches and surrounding areas. "We are very excited to have Jim working for First United Security Bank. His experience, skills and personal contacts will certainly be a tremendous benefit to our organization," Phillips said. "He is not only highly respected in local banking, but also in his community. We are fortunate to have him join our ranks." With more than 15 years of banking experience, Sheffield is a seasoned banker with a local perspective. His office will be at 2101 College Avenue in Jackson in one of the two First United Security Bank branches located in Jackson. Having worked with local community banks during his career, he comes most recently from Southwest Bank of Chatom where he was employed as vice president/ branch manager since 2002. "I look forward to working with the customers and employees of such a strong organization as First United Security Bank," Sheffield said. "I'm planning to continue doing business the way I have for years, personally helping meet customers' financial needs. This is a great opportunity for me and my family. I look forward to doing business with faithful friends and my new neighbors as well." Among other accomplishments, Sheffield has been a lifelong member of Chatom Baptist Church. He and his family are involved members. Additionally, he is currently the chairman of the Washington County Housing Authority's board of directors, and has been involved in local business and industry for more than 20 years in various capacities. Sheffield has also been involved in local athletics and school events and organizations for many years. He is married to wife, Bridget of 26 years. They have two children, Stephen, 13, and Catie, 20. Sheffield was educated at Washington County High School (1979), and received a degree from the Alabama Banking School of the South at the University of South Alabama (1985). He also was a member of the charter class of Samford University's School of Banking, and has completed many hours of training in the financial services industry.
