Tree giveaway planned for Arbor Week

In observance of Arbor Week this year, the Alabama Forestry Commission will be conducting a tree seedling giveaway at the Clarke County office on Thursday, Feb. 21st at 8:30 a.m.

Arbor Week in Alabama is always the third full week in February, which is 17-23 this year. Arbor Week began in 1872 in Nebraska and is now celebrated around the nation at different times to coincide with the best tree planting weather.

Quantities for the giveaway will be limited and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Species include sawtooth oak, willow oak, cherrybark oak, water oak, shumard oak, and a "homeowner's packet" containing one each of dogwood, maple, vitex, crepe myrtle, red bud, crab apple, Japanese maple as supplies last.

The office is located two miles north of Grove Hill on County Road 27(Old Highway 5).
