Closed meetings
The public announce- ment of the wood pellet mill was preceded by Gov. Riley meeting behind closed doors with local municipal and county leaders in the council chambers of Jackson City Hall.

The intent of the meeting was innocent enough- for the governor to hear the needs of area officials. However, closing the door to the local press was not the thing to do and may have violated the state's open meetings law.

After about 30 minutes- with a representative of the The Democrat and other local media raising cain about being locked out- the doors were opened and they were allowed in. They should not have been barred in the first place.
