CPS Gators drop to Class AA in football for 2008-09 seasons
By Ross Wood Sports Editor

The Alabama Independent School Association reclassified its member schools last week and all of our area schools will be seeing major changes next school year.

The Clarke Prep Gators, after spending the last two seasons in Class AAA in football, will be dropping back to Class AA. They have the largest numbers in the class with an average daily attendance of 58.20. That number reflects boys only.

They are joined by Monroe, Escambia, Southern, Meadowview, Pickens and Wilcox.

Basketball, softball and baseball all remain in AAA as they have a combined number of 120 students per day. They will be the smallest school in the class.

They will be in the same region as Bessemer, Tuscaloosa, Kingwood, Prattville Christian, Monroe and Morgan.

Volleyball, which has won the last four state championships, moves up from A to AA. The new region for the Lady Gators will feature Prattville Christian, Kingwood, East Memorial, Edgewood, Tuscaloosa, Monroe and Southern.

The Jackson Academy Eagles drop in football from AA to A and they will be joined by Patrician, South Choctaw, Open Door, Warrior, Central Christian, Sparta and Sumter.

The Eagles move to Class A in basketball, softball and baseball as well. They will be in the same region as Wilcox, Sparta, Sumter, Warrior, Open Door, Central Christian and South Choctaw.

The Lady Eagles remain in Class A in volleyball. The classifications are counted once a month to get the average daily attendance.
