Principal's Address

February is here and we have many exciting activities taking place in our school. This month holds several important holidays, which lends itself to great learning experiences in the classroom.

Teachers are planning activities surrounding Black History Month, Dental Health, President's Day, and of course Valentine's Day. Many of these holidays and celebrations give students a historical perspective on great leaders of our nation, and how their influence affects their lives today.

The teachers at GHES do a wonderful job of incorporating these various activities into their plans.

On Feb. 7 we had a great crowd on hand for our PTA meeting. It was one of the largest audiences we've had this year. It is wonderful to see our parents, grandparents, friends and community come out and support our students and PTA.

First and Second grade classes were responsible for the programs. Both programs were awesome and provided the best entertainment in town! It takes many hours of hard work to prepare students for such educational programs. We thank those teachers for all they do for our boys and girls.

Academic Recognition Assemblies also took place recently. After each grade-reporting period, students gather together to receive recognition in several academic areas: Perfect Attendance, Excellent Conduct, "A" Honor Roll, and "A/B" Honor Roll, ribbons are awarded to students who meet the criteria. Names were drawn and prizes were awarded to students who have received good behavior "Sunny Grams."

This is a special time for students to be recognized for their hard work.

Last week was especially festive, because of Valentine's Day. Our students made and delivered special cards to classmates and teachers. It is a neat time of year, because we all seem to be more thoughtful and caring of each other. As parents, we should try to promote the love of reading and books with our children.

What better way to show love, than by sitting down and sharing a favorite story with the ones you love.
