Teachers continuing to make GHES great On two occasions this month, our students got days off to rest, but our teachers attended school and were very busy. We utilize our teacher in service days to their fullest potential. Our teachers arrived with an agenda of activities to follow. Our Feb. 5 in-service day began with a faculty meeting filled with professional development opportunities and activities. Mrs. Lisa White, GHES Reading Coach, presented a workshop on the importance of student involvement in the classroom. She offered several techniques to use to keep students task oriented and involved in the lesson. The teachers modeled these techniques and discussed ways they could implement them in their classrooms. We ended our morning meeting with Mrs. Cindy Rush and Miss Ashley Griffin, School Safety Coordinators, presenting our updated Comprehensive School Safety Plan. This is a required document that has been redesigned to fit new state guidelines. Our safety plan outlines different crisis plans for our school. The faculty made comments and suggestions to help ensure that our students are prepared if we ever were put in a crisis situation. We also discussed new ways to improve our "parents and visitors" procedures. We have outlined new procedures in our monthly parent newsletter, The Sun Times. We feel that we have a great plan of action and will be conducting drills and discussions throughout the year. On Feb. 15, all teachers in the Clarke County School System met at GHES to hear special guest speaker, Annette Breaux. She is the author of several books including "101 Answers for New Teachers and Their Mentors." She has co-authored a book with Dr. Harry K. Wong and has recently co-authored a book with Dr. Todd Whitaker. Her presentation reminded teachers that they have truly chosen the most noble of all professions Teaching!
GHES continues to be thankful for our hard working teachers who realize that teaching is a never ending "learning experience." We are always working to make our great school even better.
