Con artists hit Whatley Monday
By Kathryn F. Pickard News Reporter

The Clarke County Sheriff's Department is asking local residents to be on the lookout for two con artists who took money from a Whatley residence Monday.

According to the victim, a man came to her door and told her he was with the government and was measuring homes to be repaired.

She let him in and he went into her bedroom and made some measurements.

She described the man as a white male, possibly in his 60s. When he left she noticed he got into a blue-green fourdoor car with a younger man.

After they were gone she noticed that $400 cash was missing from a bag she kept in the bedroom.

"If any suspicious characters try to enter your home, please contact us at the sheriff's department at 251-275- 8132," said Chief Investigator Ron Baggette.
