Students study To Kill A Mockingbird

Braxton Early displays his picture of Atticus Finch.
The eighth grade students in Mrs. K. Wilson's English class enjoyed reading and doing a book study on Harper Lee's novel "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Students became acquainted with the author by completing a scavenger hunt on the Internet. They discovered facts about Harper Lee's family, her hometown, and her literary accomplishments.

The class was fascinated that the author grew up only 31 miles from Grove Hill, in Monroeville.

The students completed a written test after reading the book.

After completion of the novel, the eighth graders watched the movie. Then, students wrote an essay and completed an art project.

Braxton Early won the art project competition with a drawing of one of the main characters, Atticus Finch.

According to Quint Taite, "To Kill a Mockingbird" is one of the most intriguing books that he has ever read.

Bre Castarphen states that her favorite part of the book was the courtroom scene; Brittany Hollins says that she enjoyed all parts of the book.

The students wish there were a sequel to the book because they would certainly read it.
