Lady Bulldogs season ends at Troy Regionals
By Ross Wood Sports Editor

Erica Moore floats to the basket Saturday.
The dream of a trip to the final four and a possible state basketball crown came to an abrupt end Saturday as the Lady Bulldogs from Clarke County lost 72- 66 to Geneva High School in Troy.

It came down to a first quarter in which CCHS fell behind 10 points and then again in the final frame when Geneva, who shot 44 percent from 3-point land, pulled away with the win.

"We had too many turnovers early in the game," Coach Tori Johnson said. "I think the first three times we came down the court we never attempted a shot."

Erica Moore led CCHS with 25 points and 10 rebounds. The senior connected on five 3- pointers in the game. Ebony Hughes, who was 9-of-10 from the field, added 19 points and five rebounds. Kiara Gildersleeve had 11 points and eight rebounds. Keshia Coats had seven points and four rebounds.

Moore and Hughes were named to the all-tournament team.

On Thursday the Lady Bulldogs advanced to the South Region finals as they beat Lafayette 58-37.

Moore again led her team as she had 25 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Hughes added 13 points and six rebounds. Gildersleeve had eight points.

"We felt like nerves could be a factor," Johnson said. "We wanted to fight through those in the first minutes and play our game."

Clarke County loses two seniors from this year's team in Erica Moore and Eboney Hughes.

"We will get started working towards getting back here and going even further as soon as possible," Johnson said. "These have been two special players for this team and for me. They will be missed."

The Lady Bulldogs end the season with a 23-6 record.
