Goat producers to meet

Many small farmers in this area raise goats, but marketing them often is a problem. In an effort to help Alabama goat producers, the Alabama A+ Marketing Cooperative is being formed. This cooperative will be establishing a processing plant that will process not only goats, but also sheep and rabbits so that meat producers will be readily available for grocery stores. This will help farmers by providing a stable and more profitable market. Each animal group will have its own group to tailor the cooperatives actions to better suit the needs of its producers. The Goat Producers organizational meeting for this area of the state will be Saturday, March 8 at 10 a.m. at the Choctaw County Community Development Center. The Center is in the former East Choctaw School located at 25225 AL Hwy. 10 East of Butler. All persons who raise goats, or interested in raising goats are encouraged to attend. Information on the new cooperative will be supplied as well as discussions on the needs of goat producers. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Send in your items for the community calendar. There is no charge for this service. Call 275-3375, fax to 275-3060 or e-mail ccdemo@mygalaxyexpress.com.
