Bulldogs lost to Mustangs

The dreams of a state championship came up short for the Clarke County High School Bulldogs as they lost 48-42 to the Mustangs of Madison Academy Thursday night in the Class 3A finals.

Playing against the foe who just one year earlier had eliminated them from the state final four, CCHS held a slight 26-22 lead at halftime. But in the second half they went cold on the offensive side of the ball, scoring just eight points in each of the final two quarters.

All-tournament team selection Deforest Taite led Clarke County with 19 points and five rebounds, but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter. Justin Burroughs, also named all-tourney, added 11 points and four rebounds.

It was the first time CCHS had played for a state title since they won it all in 1989.

They finish the year with a 27-6 record.
