Judge has heart surgery

Retired Circuit Judge Harold Crow is recovering after suffering a heart attack and having surgery in a Tuscaloosa hospital.

Crow, of Thomasville, was in Tuscaloosa to see his doctor last week when he reportedly suffered chest pains after leaving the doctor's office. He immediately returned to the doctor's office and was taken to Druid City Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

He has been released from the hospital but is still in Tuscaloosa, recovering at his daughter's home.

Crow served as Clarke County's district judge for 14 years and then as one of the First Judicial Circuit's two judges for 12 years before retiring in 2006.

Stuart DuBose won the seat in the 2006 election but was suspended from the bench earlier this year after being charged with ethical wrongdoings. His case is still pending and a number of district and circuit judges are handling his case docket, including, until his heart attack, Judge Crow.

Clarke County Circuit Clerk Jay Duke said this week that Crow's absence will necessitate that the other judges assigned to handle DuBose's docket do more work or more judges will have to be drafted to help.
