Welcome to Grove Hill, Odmaa Munkhgerel!
"Grove Hill is much different than Ulaan-Baastar!" said Odmaa. Ulaan-Baastar is Mongolia's capitol and largest city. Odmaa has visited both Japan and China, and said that the United States does not even compare to any other countries she has visited. "The biggest transitions has to be the time change and the temperature... it is a lot colder in Mongolia!" It is not unusual for the temperature at Odmaa's home to be as low as -25 degrees Fahrenheit. And if the climate change is not enough, the hardest part of moving here has been the time change. There is a 12 hour difference from Ulaan- Baastar to Grove Hill. "It was hard at first, being sleepy during the day and waking up in the night. But I adjusted quickly," said Odmaa. "But I love it here! Everything about it is great. The people, the school...it's just awesome." Odmaa made it clear that the students and faculty have been very welcoming and encouraging. "I'm making a lot of new friends, but I must say that Shamaka [Mobley] has been the best," she said. When asked about her favorite teacher and subject, she giggled and replied with, "The Stanleys. I love Mrs. Stanley's Algebraic Connections class. She is really sweet. And Coach Stanley's America History class is very interesting. All of the information in his class is new to me."
Odmaa, 16, is the only child of a single mother who works as a cosmetic salesperson. She is currently living with Bruce and Julie Etheridge of Grove Hill. Their son, Justin, is a freshman at CCHS.
