Jax men arrested for armed robbery
By Kathryn F. Pickard News Reporter

Three Jackson men were arrested for an armed robbery in Whatley Saturday night.

K-9 and Interdiction Deputy Jim Mundie was dispatched to the Indian Hills community on Old Line Road in Whatley about 10:15 p.m.

When he arrived at the scene the victim, Trevor Pugh, told him he had been flagged down and three men had pulled him from his vehicle, beat him to the ground and one held a gun to his head while the others took $400 cash, his wallet, CDs a CD player, his car keys and cigarettes and a lighter.

The three alleged assailants left the scene in a white Altima with rims and an Alabama personalized tag with NEKNJT on it.

Deputy Mundie issued a BOLO to other agencies in the area describing the vehicle and occupants.

Within 10 minutes Officer Jonathan Downey with Jackson Police Department saw the vehicle on Highway 43 near the Walker Springs intersection, headed south.

He followed the vehicle and confirmed it was the one lawmen were searching for. It turned off the highway on to Stanley Drive. Downey attempted to stop the car but it turned into the parking lot at Windrush Apartments and went to the back of the parking lot.

At that time other officers had arrived on the scene. The vehicle was stopped and the subjects were taken from the car one at a time and placed in separate patrol cars. As officers searched the vehicle for other possible suspects they discovered the items that had been stolen from Pugh as well as some cocaine.

Pugh was brought to the scene to identify the suspects and the items taken from him. He was then taken to Grove Hill Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released the next day.

The three suspects, Kelvin Chapman, James Jackson and Larenzo Jackson, were all arrested and charged with robbery, first degree and possession of cocaine.

The vehicle was processed. The stolen items as well as DNA evidence were collected by the officers.

"I'd like to thank Sergeant Dexter Hunt and Officers Carey Slayton, Jonathan Downey and Rudy Oneal with Jackson Police Department and Captain Woodie Coates and Sergeant Mike Fleming with Grove Hill Police Department. Without their assistance these subjects would not have been apprehended in such a timely manner. I also want to thank the Clarke County dispatch for issuing us information as quickly as they did, which also helped with the apprehension of these subjects," Mundie said.
