Extreme Makeover Dear Editor, Grove Hill Businesses and property owners probably don't hear it often enough - Thanks for keeping our town going! Your persistence with your Grove Hill business is greatly appreciated. Times are tough these days, and keeping a business open is not always easy. Grove Hill has formed a new Development Board, consisting of seven interested citizens who want to see some positive things happen in our community. Marty Parker, John Daffin, Robbie Lipscomb, Jay Duke, Mike Burroughs, Wil Massey and I make up the group. One of our main objectives is to enhance our town aesthetically. We also want to create a spirit of pride and enthusiasm for our beloved community. Our mission is not to "change" Grove Hill but rather to enhance and promote the unique qualities and quaint atmosphere of our small town. The Development Board is sponsoring a friendly clean-up competition for business properties, called "Extreme Makeover: Grove Hill Edition." Split down the middle of Main Street, we're dividing the town into two sections - the North side and the South side. Which side would be most willing to give their properties a makeover? The North side? Or the South? A few simple, low-cost suggestions include planting flowers, trimming shrubs, even pulling weeds. Maybe a pile of materials simply needs to be relocated. Or perhaps your building only needs pressurewashing. What about some new lighting to highlight your business? If your place really needs an "extreme" makeover, a fresh coat of paint does wonders! Other suggestions include new landscaping, a new business sign, or a new awning. Or perhaps your parking lot needs resurfacing. Some have already gotten an early start with painting, such as Clarke-Mobile Gas, Gloria's Pour House Café and Dumas Church Furniture ... Hats off to these and others who've recently made improvements. With spring just around the corner, now's the perfect time for our spruce-up competition. Starting in mid-March, the contest will last for two months. Prizes will be awarded to each property owner / business owner who makes a dramatic improvement. And of course the "side" with the most participation earns bragging rights! With all of us working together, we can create a beautiful place to live, work and shop. Thanks for all your efforts. Gina Skipper,
Grove Hill Development Board
