Jamie Wilkins running for license commissioner on anti-tag fee platform
"The reason I'm running is so the people of Clarke County can have a say about the $25 extra charge that was put on the car tags without giving the people a chance to vote on it," Wilkins said. "I will make my race a referendum on the $25 car tag tax. I am completely against this expensive tax and will work to repeal it. A vote for Jamie Wilkins is the same as a 'No' vote on the $25 car tag tax. This tax is hurting some of our most vulnerable citizens, who are being penalized for the crime of owning a car," he said. When the additional tax was added to car tags, three years ago, Clarke County citizens were told there was "no time" to put the issue on the ballot for a vote of the people. "We will make time to vote on this issue now," Wilkins said. "That is why I am making this the one main issue of this campaign. If you want to get rid of this horrible $25 tax, vote for Wilkins and repeal. As gas goes up to $4 a gallon, the last thing Clarke County government needs to do is make you pay the $25 extra for car tags and trailer tags, yes, some boat trailers also. "If you like paying $25 extra for car tags, vote for someone else. If you want to end it, please vote for Jamie Wilkins. If we don't stop this now, there is no telling how many other taxes they will raise without a vote."
