Clancy-like thriller details bioterrorist threat
By Jim Cox Editor & Publisher

Dr. Rivers on duty in Mid East
"….he pointed into the back of the truck. The body bags were stacked like human firewood, a dozen wide and eight to ten bodies high. Lifeless elbows prodded into equally lifeless necks and faces. Over half of the forty-foot-long trailer was already packed with the people who awoke that morning to go to jobs, to visit family members, or to walk in the Historic District- to simply begin the next day of the lives that they had been given. They had no warning that by afternoon, they would be stacked in the back of a truck, their only remaining connection to the lives they once lived a handwritten tag on their right big toes."

Chemical or biological warfare inflicted through our everyday routines is the nightmare that many Americans dread even more than a horrific terrorist attack like 9/11 or a military assault of our shores.

The Jihad Germ explores the frightening possibilities of an advanced bioterror weapon penetrating U.S. port security and everyday life to kill thousands in one of the nation's most historic cities.

Dr. Terry Rivers, who grew up in Grove Hill, and writes as "T. N. Rivers" calls upon his career as an emergency care physician and as a U.S. Army Reserve medical officer and flight surgeon who has seen duty in Iraq and other areas of the Middle East to pen a realistic take on bioterror warfare as his first effort at novel writing.

His storyline resembles the political thrillers and technically detailed espionage tales of bestseller novelist Tom Clancy.

Dr. Ron Raines and nurse Christie Fellows are main characters who work tirelessly to try and save the lives of citizens. FEMA, the Center for Disease Control, the U.S. Marine Chemical and Biologic Incident Response Force and other civilian and military agencies strive to contain the threat and to find an antidote to stop the germ's killing rampage.

President Jack Lunsford ("He had been a Marine pilot and he always would be...") and others worked in the aftermath to find and punish the guilty and to restore the balance of world power.

The Jihad Germ is a riveting, fastpaced story, frighteningly real because it really could happen.

Dr. Rivers is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Rivers of Grove Hill. He will be at City Drugs in Grove Hill beginning at 2 p.m. Friday, March 21 autographing copies of The Jihad Germ. Copies of the book are available at the store.
