Rowell John Harvey Rowell Sr., 66, of Fulton died March 7, 2008. He was born Oct. 2, 1941 in Mobile. He was the third child of Robert and Nadine Fowler Rowell. He attended Carlowville High School (Dallas County). He was an outstanding athlete and outdoorsman. He was a member of Christ the King, CEC. He served on the intercessory prayer group and served where he was needed. He started his work career in the family's timber business, an electrician at City Electric and various other companies before going to Hammermill Paper, I.P. for over 27 years. He was a millwright in the maintenance department. He also served the local union as president during the 1970s. He was an electrician for the charity League Follies from 1964 to 1980. He coached baseball for the Selma City League for 13 years. He was a member of the Selma Elks club for many years. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary McCormick Rowell, his mother, Nadine Fowler Rowell, Gainestown; one son, John Harvey (Lin) Rowell Jr., one brother, Bobby (Doris) Rowell, Birmingham, one sister, Nadia (Bill) Speed, Gainesville, Ga.; 10 grandchildren. The service was March 11 at 2 p.m. at Christ the King Cathedral. Burial was at the New Live Oak Cemetery. Lawrence Brown Funeral Home directed.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Christ the King Cathedral, CEC, Building Fund.
