An investigation was conducted by the Clarke County Sheriff's Office and the Grove Hill Police Department after it was reported that a utility truck was stolen from Ray Jordan's Shop on Love Road in Grove Hill.

While investigating the stolen truck it was reported that a van was taken from Church Pews on the same day, said Ron Baggette, chief investigator with the Clarke County Sheriff's Department. The utility truck was found behind Church Pews, and it had been destroyed by arson.

Evidence was collected at the scene, and later the van was found off of Nettlesboro Road. It had been hidden and abandoned in the woods.

After processing the scene where the van was found, an arrest was made on James Ray Goodman of the Scyrene community, Baggette said. Goodman was taken to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office and questioned and later was charged with two counts of theft of property, first degree, and arson, second degree.

Officers involved in the investigation was Baggette, Chief Virgil Chapman, Captain Woodie Coates of the Grove Hill Police Department, Deputy Chris Whitfield, and K-9 Deputy Jim Mundie.
