Norris honored for work in rural water system
For many years, the Alabama Rural Water Association's Annual Conference has ended with an awards program honoring individuals for outstanding service and exceptional contributions to water and wastewater utility efforts. Nominations are submitted by water and wastewater utility employees, management personnel, mayors, council members, board members or other interested individuals. Mike Norris, manager/operator of Mid Central Water and FPA, Inc., Fulton Utilities Board and Grove Hill Water Works, was named this year as Director of the Year. Norris has been with Mid-Central Water & FPA, Inc., since 1979 and has served as the manager/ operator since 1995. He has been working with the Fulton Utilities Board since 1973 and has served as its manager/operator since 1995. In 2006, he began serving as manager/operator for the Grove Hill Water Works. In addition, Norris serves as the Mayor of Fulton. Norris's leadership has greatly improved the quality of life of his water customers and constituents. He recently acquired the funds and began the installation of a Sewage System for the Town of Fulton. The sewage system has mitigated the chance of groundwater contamination through faulty septic systems. He has also acquired a generator for the town to insure that auxiliary power will be available to keep water flowing to the people in times of emergencies. During his tenure with Mid- Central, Norris has added an additional water tank with a storage capacity of 500,000 gallons; he has installed additional pumps and has upgraded water lines throughout the system. Under his leadership, the Mid-Central Water & FPA, Inc. has seen its customer base grow from 300 to 800. He also serves on many other committees and is involved with many community enhancement projects and activities. The Alabama Rural Water Association is a non-profit organization representing water and wastewater systems serving rural communities and towns and those commercial firms, which support these systems.
