Hospital auxiliary donates $46,000
By Barry H. Hendrix Managing Editor

The issue of the closing of the LifeLine ambulance service was addressed March 27 by Doug Sewell, administrator of the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

"I didn't have any love or any hate for either one of the services," he told the hospital board. However, "now there's one service that can afford to provide service while two could not."

In other action from the March 27 meeting, the Hospital Auxiliary donated $24,000 for an injector for the new cat-scan machine, $8,500 for a fetal monitor, $10,000 for two baby warmers and $3,500 for a DINAMAP blood pressure monitor.

• The auxiliary jewelry sale will be April 24 and 25 at the hospital.

• The hospital hopes to form a new foundation for fundraising. The foundation would ultimately take over from the auxiliary in raising donations.

• Admissions to the hospital were up for February with a total of 147 compared to 105 for January. There were 473 visits to the Emergency Room and 1,400 outpatient visits.

Visits to the three clinics increased with 1,046 total (Grove Hill); 361 (Fulton) and 181 (Coffeeville).

Overall, there was a $2,000 profit for February, said Elaine Averett, business office manager.
