James

L.V. "Bishop" James, 83, of Glendale, Md. died March 21, 2008 at a hospital in Seabrook, Md.

James, also known affectionately as "32," "Paps," "Pop" and "Daddy," was a native of Choctaw Bluff and had recently relocated temporarily to Glendale, Md. He was a member of St. James AME Church Choctaw Bluff where he was a steward and a former church

treasurer. He was a U.S. Army veteran

of World War II,

having served from 1943 to 1946. His tours of duty included northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe. He received several service medals, including the World War II Victory Medal. He was a retired logger.

Survivors include eight sons, Ottis James, Wesley James, Evon James, Rev. Ivory James, all of Choctaw Bluff, Tony James, Prattville, Glen James, Birmingham, Ray Lee Rocker, Pittsburgh, Calif., Donald James, Hayward, Calif.; four daughters, Joann Barbosa, Vallejo, Calif., Marquetta Roberts, Oakland, Calif., Margaret Mitchell, Glendale, Kathy Gaston of Jackson; two sisters, Virginia Lucas, Choctaw Bluff, Thelma Allen, Mobile; two brothers, Jim H. James, Albert James, both of Mobile; 35 grandchildren; and 35 greatgrandchildren.

The service was March 29 at noon at St. James AME Church in Choctaw Bluff. Burial followed with full military honors at St. James AME Church Cemetery. Following the burial, there was a visitation in the fellowship hall of the church and at the James family home. Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson directed.
