Thanks to firemen
Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

Many guys spend their Saturdays mowing the lawn, catching up on honey-do chores, or, if they're lucky, golfing, fishing, or just relaxing.

Not the guys from Grove Hill Fire and Rescue. For the last several weekends, these volunteer firemen, assisted by Helwestern Fire Department, have helped tremendously with the clean-up efforts in our community.

This past weekend, an old homeplace on Asbury Road was burned down, at the request of the owner. Prior to that, two buildings in town that have needed attention for quite some time were also burned -- the old Pawn Shop on the north end of town and the old Feed Mill on the south. Although these were simply dilapidated buildings to most, we are sensitive to the fact that these places held special memories for the property owners. We appreciate the families' willingness to clean up the properties.

In addition, the Fire and Rescue Department, along with several other Grove Hill citizens, participated in "Pride is Alive on Five," the phenomenal effort to pick up all litter along Highway 5.

The efforts of GHFR volunteers are greatly appreciated, as well as those who are making efforts to spruce up around their business property. We are four weeks in to Extreme Makeover: Grove Hill Edition, so make your plans now! Let's all go the extra mile, like our local firemen, to make a beautiful place to live, work, and shop.
