Woodie Pugh running for education superintendent
Pugh worked in the Clarke County system for 30 years before retiring in December 2007 and accepting a position as assistant principal, athletic director and daycare coordinator at West Oktibbeha County High School in Maben, Miss. He was an agribusiness education teacher at Clarke County High School from 1979 until his retirement. Pugh grew up in Coffeeville, the son of the late Woodie and Viola Pugh. He graduated from Coffeeville High School and received degrees from Alabama A&M University in Huntsville and Alabama State University in Montgomery. He was Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in 2000 and has served on the Clarke Educators Federal Credit Union Board of Directors and on the Children's Center of Clarke County, Inc. Board of Directors. He is a member of the Selective Service Board and is Masonic Grand District Deputy for Clarke, Monroe and Wilcox Counties. He worked at various levels in FFA during his time as an ag teacher and was a presenter for the Alabama Global Vision in 1997. Pugh said he looks forward to meeting with Clarke County citizens and talking about the issues between now and the June 3 primary.
