Shriners will be seeking donations in T'ville Saturday

Local Shriners members will be soliciting donations in front of the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Thomasville Saturday, April 19.

Shriner John Luff of Grove Hill said Shriners would be there from about 8 a.m. until noon. "We may stay until one o'clock if we are doing good," he joked.

Shriners Hospitals for Children has been providing one-of-a-kind specialty pediatric care at absolutely no charge to patients or their families for 85 years.

Since 1922, Shriners Hospitals have provided care to approximately 835,000 children with orthopedic conditions, burns of all degrees, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate. In 2007, Shriners Hospitals spent $1.975 million each day to provide medical care at no charge to its patients. There are 22 Shriner Hospitals across the United States.

All children, from birth to 18 years of age, may be eligible for admission to Shriners Hospitals.

Luff and other local Shriners are associated with the Abba Shrine in Mobile.

He said all donations would be appreciated.
