Cabin dedication will be Sunday

The public is invited to attend the dedication of the Josiah and Lucy Martin Mathews Cabin at the Clarke County Museum complex Sunday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m. A reception will follow.

Dr. David Mathews, a Clarke County native now head of the Kettering Foundation in Dayton, Ohio will give a history of the cabin and the restoration process will be described by Clarke County Historical Society members.

The two-pen log cabin was sold to the society in 2005 by Lucy Oliver Dortch and her son, Bill, and moved from its location off Mathews Cemetery Road south of Grove Hill to the museum. It was first built in the 1830s and occupied by pioneer settlers Josiah and Lucy Mathews. In the event of rain, the dedication will take place at Grove Hill Town Hall.

For more information contact the museum office at 1-251-275-8684.
