Keahey announces $625,000 for area schools State Representative Marc Keahey (D-Grove Hill) announced that local schools will receive over $625,000 in funds. The Alabama Public School and College Incentive Fund will distribute the grants. The fund was established as part of a bond issue passed by the Legislature last session for projects in schools, community colleges, universities, and public libraries. "Providing quality education should be our number one priority, and these grants will fund projects that will have a direct impact on students," said Keahey. Of the total $625,000, the following schools will receive grants: Choctaw County High School; Southern Choctaw High School; Clarke County Technology Center ($250,000); McIntosh High School; Washington County Career Technical School; Millry High School; Washington County High School; Chatom Elementary School; Fruitdale High School; Leroy High School; McIntosh Elementary School . "With these grants, schools will be able to fund safety projects, technology upgrades, and facility improvements, which are all needed throughout the district," Keahey said.
The Alabama House of Representatives next convenes Thursday, April 17, for the 22nd legislative day of the 2008 Regular Session.
