Junior Betas induct new members On April 17 the Wilson Hall Middle School Junior Beta Club inducted 44 new members into the club. Officers from both the fifth and sixth grade and the seventh and eighth grade clubs conducted the welcome, pledge, and devotion before explaining the purposes of the Beta Club. They used symbolism from this year's Beta Club theme - Beta: An Ocean of Opportunity. A starfish provided a prop to point out the five emphases of the Beta Club: achievement, leadership, service, character, and scholarship. This year's officers are Halie Moore and Caleb Smith, presidents; Savannah Mozingo and Jamie Creighton, vice-presidents; Monifa Knight and Lameshia Hunt, treasurers; and Wesley Rhodes and Anna Stifflemire, secretaries. After inducting new members, sponsors Melissa McNider, Cheryl Clarke, Tammy Dannelly, and Annell Gordon told about the year's activities and accomplishments. Then the seventh and eighth grade Junior Betas were recognized for their participation in competitions at state convention. Katrina Gilchrist showed off her embroidery that earned her a third place ribbon. Then Jenny Henderson sang and danced to "Jazz Hot." Next, Savannah Mozingo was recognized for her third place win in the essay competition. Wesley Rhodes gave a recitation of his third-place-winning poem "The Preacher's Son" followed by Morgan Strong's presentation of her second-place-winning speech. Finally, the seventh and eighth grade club energized the audience with their Songfest performance that won them a first place trophy at the state convention.
At one point, Halie Moore instructed the new members to "strap on their water wings" since they were about to dive into an ocean of fun in the Junior Beta Club. Club members and sponsors are looking forward to having a whale of a time next year.
