CCHS Bulldogs advance to second round

Clarke County High School plated 11 runs in the sixth inning as they ran away from the Straughn Tigers 18-1 to advance in the first round of the AHSAA Class 3A baseball playoffs.

Hunter Cross brought in four runs. Chris Andrews drove in three, Adrian Snell, Rashad Snell and Dwayne Owens one each in the big inning.

Deandre Love (5-0) struck out 10 in six innings of work to get the win. He allowed one run, three walks, but walked six. He struck out at least one Tiger in each inning.

At the plate A. Snell went 3- for-4 with three RBI. Cross was 2-for-4 with four RBI and a grand slam homer. Owens and Zack Watford each went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Justin Robinson went 2-for-3 with a 2-run homer. R. Snell was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Josh Watford went 2-for-4 with a double.

In the first game of the 2-game series the Bulldogs won easily 13-3 on the road in Covington County.

J. Watford (4-2) earned the win as he went the distance of seven innings. He gave up three runs and six hits, but did not issue one single walk.

J. Robinson led the offensive attack as he went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a homer. Owens went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Andrews was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Tyler Walker went 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI. Cross added a double. A. Snell also had a hit.

Clarke County (19-11) hosts the Green Wave of Gordo in the second round of the playoffs. It will be a best 2-of-3 series again with the double-header starting Friday at 4 p.m.

Gordo beat Greensboro in two games to advance.
