Community Calendar The descendants of John Sidney and Sarah Ann Flewellen and related families, Gates, Rhoads, Thomas, Culpepper and others will meet at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3 at Roland Cooper State Park. Gates family reunion The Gates family reunion (William and Mary Eve Stifflemire Gates family) and decoration at the Gates Family Cemetery in Scyrene will be Saturday, May 3. The reunion will be at Gaston's Grill (old Ryan's Restaurant) on Highway 43 in Thomasville at 12 noon. Lunch may be purchased from Gaston's Grill. Fellowship and decoration will follow at the Gates Family Cemetery on County Road 35 in Scyrene at 2 p.m. Gospel music by Keel and family of Grove Hill and a devotional will be part of the decoration service. Coffeeville RSVP meets The Coffeeville RSVP will meet Tuesday, May 6 at 2 p.m. in the Nutrition Center. Everyone is invited to attend and bring a friend. Help others by being a volunteer. Alzheimer's group meets The Alzheimer's/Caregivers Support Group will meet Tuesday, May 6 at 1 p.m. in the conference room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Volunteers sought for hotel dig Persons interested in Alabama history and archaeology have an opportunity to assist in the excavation of a historic former hotel building in old St. Stephens Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The excavation of the Globe Hotel, circa 1815, will be conducted under the direction of archaeologist George Shorter of the University of South Alabama. Volunteers are urged to bring lunch, water and sunscreen. Youth, 12 and under, must be accompanied by a parent. Previous excavation experience is not required. Tools will be provided. Herod book to be reviewed by Camden book club "Gathering Moss," the novel by Grove Hill resident Jim Herod, will be featured at the book club meeting Thursday, May 15 at Black Belt Treasures in Camden. Coffeeville celebrates 200 years The Town of Coffeeville will celebrate 200 years of success on Saturday, May 31. The genealogy committee would like every one of Coffeeville to display his or her heritage on that day. Please furnish your own display table and cover. If you have artifacts to loan to the committee, they will be protected and returned. If any citizen has special artifacts or pictures that can be displayed on the Coffeeville history table, please contact one of the committee members. Please start gathering your pictures and artifacts now so you will be prepared by May 31. Please be at Town Hall at 4 p.m. to set up your display.
